The Happy Camper at Swig is a dirty soda made with root beer, toasted marshmallow syrup and half and half. A 32 oz costs $3.84 at the middle-priced store, and Swig lists it at 130 to 460 calories.

What's in a Happy Camper

Swig's online ordering menu lists it as: Root Beer + Toasted Marshmallow + Half & Half.

In plain words, the Happy Camper drink is root beer with toasted marshmallow syrup and half and half. The toasted marshmallow is one of the flavor syrups on Swig's menu. It isn't a topping: the menu description lists no marshmallow fluff or mini marshmallows, and at the 49 stores we broke down below, the price is the cup plus just the syrup and the half and half.

Swig has posted about it since at least July 2022. Its TikTok account shared "Happy Camper: A Unique Twist on Root Beer Floats" on July 25, 2022. It's one of the 40 Swig dirty sodas.

How the Happy Camper price adds up

A Swig drink's price is the cup plus each add-in, and the Happy Camper has just two paid add-ins. At the 49 stores that charge exactly $3.84 for a 32 oz, it breaks down like this:

Part Price
32 oz soda cup (root beer) $2.79
Toasted marshmallow syrup $0.40
Half and half $0.65
Total $3.84

The cup and the add-ins vary a little by store: the 32 oz soda cup runs $2.45 to $2.89, the toasted marshmallow syrup is $0.40 or $0.45, and the half and half is $0.65 or $0.70. Across the 178 stores, a 32 oz Happy Camper runs $3.55 to $4.04; the cheapest cups and add-ins aren't at the same stores.

At $3.84 for a 32 oz at the middle-priced store, it ties with the Buttery Beer, Princess Peach, the Texas Tab and Waikiki. Only six of Swig's 40 dirty sodas cost less, all at $3.59. Going from a 32 oz to a 44 oz adds $0.20 ($4.04). See Swig sizes and prices for how every cup is priced, or price your own version in the Swig drink price calculator.

Happy Camper vs the Buttery Beer

The Happy Camper and the Buttery Beer are the only two regular Swig drinks built on root beer. Both have one syrup and one cream, and they cost the same at every size at the middle-priced store.

Happy Camper Buttery Beer
Base Root beer Root beer
Syrup Toasted marshmallow Butterscotch
Cream Half and half Vanilla cream
32 oz (middle store) $3.84 $3.84
Calories (Swig) 130 to 460 140 to 490

Happy Camper calories

Swig lists the Happy Camper at 130 to 460 calories. That's one range for the whole drink across all five sizes; Swig doesn't publish a count for each size, so we don't give one. See Swig nutrition facts for every drink Swig publishes calories for, and Swig allergens for what Swig does and doesn't publish on allergens.

Can you get a lighter Happy Camper?

Not really. These are menu facts, not diet advice. We checked the Happy Camper's options at all 178 stores:

  • No diet root beer. The drink's soda options include root beer and a root beer splash, but no diet root beer. You can swap in a diet soda such as Diet Coke at no charge, but then it's no longer a root beer drink.
  • No sugar-free toasted marshmallow. The syrup has no sugar-free version in the drink's options.
  • No sugar-free half and half. The half and half has no sugar-free version.

Swig doesn't publish calories for a changed drink, so we can't say what any change saves. For drinks that are sugar-free from the start, see Swig sugar-free drinks.
